“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away” – Vicky Corona, Tahitian dancer

Since I studied biochemistry almost half a century ago, my research focused on topics of life and death. Starting with investigating glucose metabolism (aren´t sweets something to die for?), I am interested in cell division cycle, apoptosis (cellular suicide), and in drugs and fasting strategies which prolong the enjoyable portion of our lives.
My hobbies are painting, gardening, and sports which can be performed sitting comfortably or floating weightlessly, like paragliding (no more, bones too brittle) and scuba diving. Central in my life are my family, and teaching, counseling and chatting with my students.
